Hello travelers,

Bozeman is an great spot to start your summer adventures! Once you arrive, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier National Parks are all easily accessible. Although Glacier NP is a bit further north, it is not to be missed. The scenery is stunning! This park does see less annual visitors than Yellowstone, but it is still advised to make travel plans in advance. Here are a few travel tips that might help along the way.

  • Book campsites EARLY!! The park is busiest from July to September.
    • There are 13 campgrounds and most in Glacier are first-come, first-served.
      • Exceptions are Fish Creek, St. Mary, some of Many Glacier, and half of the group sites in Apgar.
    • Campsites are limited to 8 people per site + 2 cars. Maximum of 2 tents per site.
    • If you need to save a campsite, a paper plate strung across the entrance to your site with your name and date will show the site is taken.
  • Bear spray is highly recommended during your visit. It can protect you against all types of animal encounters.
    • Report all bear and mountain lion sightings or encounters to the nearest ranger, campground host, visitor center, or by calling (406) 888-7800.
    • Bear spray rental
  • Keep a clean camp. Most campgrounds have bear-proof storage boxes available for use. Other options include:
  • Bring a warm layer of clothes for the evenings. It snows, up at higher elevations, every month in Glacier Park. Being prepared for chilly evening helps keep campers happy.
  • Don’t touch, or feed the animals. This helps maintain your safety, as well as the animals’.
