It is hot, and it is smokey. The dog days have summer have arrived early. This does not mean there are not a ton of fun things to do outside right now. Hoot Owl closures are in effect on many of Southwest Montana’s rivers right now as a result of high water temperatures, so this means that if you want to fish in the afternoons- you need to get creative.

Mountain lakes are a great option to find some cooler climes and eager fish. Or, if you want to be lazy (like us sometimes!) the larger lakes and reservoirs can provide some great fishing and relaxing options.

On a hot tip from our mechanic, we loaded up the boat and headed up to Canyon Ferry to try our luck with the elusive walleye. Golly gee, we actually caught a bunch. First time ever. Fish tacos anyone? Yes, please!
