Rental Bear Spray and Food Storage in Bozeman, MT

Bear Spray is highly recommended by the Yellowstone National Park service. Rent, don’t buy!

We are the nation’s first renter of bear spray. Since the summer of 2010, Explore Rentals has been providing rental bear spray to locals and visitors of Southwest Montana. We have rented to well over 1,000 people, and not a single one has been eaten by a bear. Explore Rentals is conveniently located adjacent to the Bozeman Airport (BZN) allowing for simple pick-up and returns from and to the airport. You can’t take the Bear Spray on the plane after all!

Renting Bear Spray is an affordable alternative to purchasing. Retail value of each canister is $45+ and it is illegal to transport on an airplane in checked or carry-on luggage. Further, disposing of unused Bear Spray is a serious issue. This is not a product that can be simply discarded in the trash. Located 1.2-miles east of the entrance to the Bozeman Airport, we will get you on your adventures educated and prepared in a matter of minutes. We also offer after-hours pick-up and drop-off by advance reservation.

Bear education free with rental!

At Explore Rentals we make sure each renter is provided information on how to safely use bear spray, and how to behave in Grizzly Country. Our professionals are able to answer the questions and provide the insight needed to avoid any negative bear encounters.

Bear spray, a highly concentrated pepper spray, has proven to be the most successful protection against bear attacks – even more so than firearms. If you are intending on going off the beaten path anywhere in Grizzly Country, it is highly recommended that all party members carry bear spray and know how to use it.

For the protection of humans, bears, and the environment please consider renting Bear spray and IGBC approved food storage containers.

Bear Proof Food Storage

In addition to bear spray, we also carry IGBC food storage containers. These containers are for dry food and are 10 inches tall with 8-inch diameter and weighing roughly 2.5 lbs. They are capable of storing 4 days of food for one person and are incredibly easy to use. All you need is your pocket knife (a penny will work too) to turn the screws on the top to open and close the lid. They do not pack very well so it works best for car camping and backcountry rafting.

Bear fences are another great option to store dry and cold food. These fences roll out and you will put the stakes in the ground in any shape needed to secure your coolers and dry boxes. Then you will place the positive clip to the positive wire, and negative clip to the ground wire. The dial to turn it on is on the bottom of the box. If you listen closely, you will hear the electricity pulsing through the wires to know it is on. We recommend setting the fence up more than 100 yards from camp if possible. It’s an easy way to protect all your food from bear and other hungry critters looking for a midnight snack.

IGBC Compliant Coolers

If you are traveling to Montana during the summer for a camping trip, everyone knows you’ll need some sort of a cooler. The pros here at Explore found the best way to keep food cold and safe is in one of the Yetis or Canyon Coolers. Our Yeti’s range from the 20qt – 155qt, and Canyon coolers from 35qt – 103qt. These coolers will come with locks to make them bear safe if asked during the time of the rental. For rafting, we recommend the Canyon Prospector 103qt for the boat. These coolers sit nicely in the frame and are easy to take out.
